Diego Medina-Gutierrez and Grace Yates

This week, the College Night Scholarship committee announced the two graduating seniors who are receiving its prestigious four-year scholarship. Diego Medina-Gutierrez and Grace Yates – both of El Diamante High School in Visalia – will receive $1,000 scholarships renewable for up to four years. Medina-Gutierrez and Yates are the 21st and 22nd scholarship recipients.

Woodlake High School students and educators

Woodlake High School students Guillermo Rosales, Jose Tadeo, and Luis Jimenez all played a part in helping save Manuel Garcia's life -- a student in the school’s AcCEL program -- before an ambulance arrived. They, along with teacher Stephanie Hayes, instructional aides Raquel Marquez and Alberto Montemayor, and WHS assistant principal Victor De La Cruz, all jumped into action to assist Manuel.

At one point, the boys helped to stand Manuel up so that the Heimlich Maneuver could be performed. 

AcCEL staff presented the boys with a goodie basket to say thank you. They were also recognized for the Pillar of Citizenship by CHARACTER COUNTS!
